Can I apply for board certification after graduation?

Eligible graduates may apply for professional board certification through the International Board of Trichology & Holistic Medicine (IBTHM) based on the requirements in effect at the time of application.

Board certification is separate from educational completion requirements.

Why Should I Apply for Board Certification Through IBTHM?

Board Certification through the International Board of Trichology & Holistic Medicine is a voluntary professional credential that demonstrates a commitment to professional standards, continuing education, ethical practice, and lifelong learning.

While board certification is not required to complete a KISSED University program, many graduates choose to pursue certification as an additional credential that reflects their dedication to excellence within the profession.

Benefits of Board Certification

✅ Demonstrates professional commitment and credibility

✅ Distinguishes you from practitioners without board certification

✅ Shows dedication to continuing education and professional development

✅ Supports ethical and accountable practice

✅ Provides inclusion in professional directories when applicable

✅ Recognizes achievement beyond educational completion

✅ Enhances professional confidence and public trust

What Is the Difference Between Graduation and Board Certification?

Graduation and board certification are two separate achievements.

Educational Credential
Awarded by KISSED University upon successful completion of a program.

Examples:

  • Certified Scalp Scientist (CSS)

  • Clinical Trichologist (CT)

  • Doctor of Trichology Science (DTS)

Board Certification
Awarded separately by IBTHM to individuals who meet the board's eligibility requirements.

Board certification recognizes professional competency, ethics, and ongoing commitment to the profession.

Is Board Certification Required?

No.

Board certification is voluntary.

Many professionals choose to pursue board certification to demonstrate an additional level of professional commitment and accountability.

Does Board Certification Grant State Licensure?

No.

Board certification does not grant state licensure, medical licensure, psychological licensure, or any other government-issued professional license.

Board certification is a private professional credential and should not be represented as a government license.

Why Might Employers, Clients, or Colleagues Value Board Certification?

Board certification demonstrates that a practitioner has chosen to pursue professional recognition beyond minimum educational requirements and is committed to maintaining professional standards through continuing education and ethical practice.

Who Is Eligible to Apply?

Eligibility requirements vary by credential level and may include:

  • Completion of an approved educational program

  • Professional experience

  • Continuing education

  • Portfolio review

  • Documentation of competency

  • Agreement to abide by the IBTHM Code of Ethics

Applicants should review current requirements before applying.

Do you offer payment plans?

Yes.

Many programs offer:

  • Pay in Full options

  • Deposit

  • Payment Plan options

  • Third-party financing options when available

Specific payment plans are listed on each enrollment page.

What if I am not sure which pathway is right for me?

Complete the Admissions Assessment or schedule an Admissions Consultation.

Our team will help determine which pathway best aligns with your experience, goals, and professional background.

Do I Become a Doctor After Completing a Certification Program?

No.

Completing the Certified Scalp Scientist (CSS), Clinical Residency Program, or Clinical Trichologist (CT) Certification Program does not confer a doctoral degree and does not entitle graduates to use the title "Doctor" or the abbreviation "Dr." based solely on those credentials.

Can I Call Myself a Doctor After Completing the Doctor of Trichology Science (DTS) Program?

Graduates of the Doctor of Trichology Science (DTS) Program earn a professional doctoral credential awarded by KISSED University.

Graduates may accurately state that they have earned a Doctor of Trichology Science (DTS) credential.

However, graduates must always comply with applicable laws, regulations, advertising rules, and professional standards in their state or country regarding the use of the title "Doctor" or "Dr."

The DTS credential does not confer:

  • Medical licensure

  • Physician status

  • Psychological licensure

  • State-issued healthcare licensure

  • Authority to diagnose, treat, or prescribe

What Is the Difference Between a Professional Doctoral Credential and a State-Licensed Doctor?

A professional doctoral credential recognizes advanced education and achievement within a specific discipline.

A state-licensed doctor holds a government-issued professional license that authorizes practice within a regulated profession such as medicine, psychology, dentistry, or another licensed healthcare field.

The DTS credential is an educational and professional designation and should not be represented as a medical or healthcare license.

How Should DTS Graduates Identify Themselves?

Examples:

✅ Jane Smith, DTS

✅ Jane Smith, Doctor of Trichology Science

✅ Jane Smith, Clinical Trichologist, DTS

Examples to avoid:

❌ Dr. Jane Smith, Medical Hair Specialist

❌ Dr. Jane Smith, Physician

❌ Dr. Jane Smith, Licensed Medical Trichologist

unless the individual separately holds those licenses and credentials.

***KISSED University encourages graduates to represent all credentials accurately and ethically. Graduates are responsible for complying with all applicable laws and regulations regarding credential use, advertising, and professional representation within their jurisdiction.
